No.8 are thrilled to have worked on Stormzy’s latest promo ‘Vossi Bop’ where legendary Idris Elba makes a cameo. There has been a lot of hype around the track after Stormzy first teased it 3 years ago so this promo has been long awaited by his fans and critics alike - The Standard, Independent and NME to name a few, were quick to join the hype and report as soon as the video went live.
We proudly teamed up with acclaimed Caviar and the incredibly talented Henry Scholfield to create Stormzy’s ‘Vossi Bop’.
Henry is renowned for creating innovative and high concept promos within the UK Grime Scene.
‘Vossi Bop’ was shot in London across a two day shoot, a nod to Stormzy’s London roots. From Westminster Bridge at dawn, The Royal Exchange and Docklands at dusk into night. He takes a political stance mentioning the Government whilst rapping at The Royal Exchange with his young dancers circulating him. An appearance of Idris Elba strengthened their influential friendship amongst their fans and social presence.
We created transitions throughout the video to give the look of a seamless one take shot which helped to produce a fast paced and innovative piece. We also comped in the bird on Westminster bridge to create an exciting transition from this scene to the next.
We did quite a lot of clean up throughout the video, from removing camera men in the mirror scene to changing all of the number plates. A tight schedule and deadline meant we were racing against the clock. Our Senior VFX operator and Creative Director, Jim Allen went above and beyond, working throughout the Easter bank holiday weekend to get it past the finish line and it was a joint effort from all involved from production to delivery.
We’re very proud to have been a part of what is dubbed to be “A Summer bumper for the hot months, ‘Vossi Bop’ is accompanied by a typically stunning new video” - Clash Music
